Origin of Story Viewer
This site concept started one night during a conversation between me and Bill, a former school teacher. Bill has a theory about how people can read much faster than commonly thought.
The premise is that a reader can actually comprehend text faster if the words are displayed one at a time. This led to the creation of the Story Viewer app, which lets users adjust the reading speed of displayed words to suit their personal pace.
Additionally, a feature was added to allow users to add their own stories for reading back to themselves. From there, we experimented with voice reading features, which also work seamlessly.
How to Use Story Viewer
Using Story Viewer is simple. Follow these steps:
- Pick a story from the Story Picker dropdown at the top of the page.
- Use the Start button to begin reading the story one word (or multiple words) at a time.
- You can control playback using:
- Pause – temporarily stops word display.
- Continue – resumes reading from where it was paused.
- Rewind / Fast Forward – move backward or forward by 5 words.
- Adjust visual preferences using sliders for:
- Speed (words per minute)
- Number of words shown at a time
- Font size
- Font color and background color
- Enable or disable dictation for voice playback using the checkbox.
For advanced customization, you can add your own stories using the "Add New Story" link.
